Lockdown has taught us that lots can be done online! Whether it’s attending a speed awareness course, going to school or running a business.
Whilst the world may feel Zoomed out, online business is here to stay. And there are things you can do to keep on top of your online game no matter what products or services you sell.
With restrictions in place due to the pandemic, more people have turned to online shopping than ever before. Here are a few steps of how to sell on the web and how to do it well.
1. Develop a strategy
When it comes to selling your goods online, you need a plan. Are you going to use a third-party site, such as eBay or Etsy, or are you going to sell via your own website? Or perhaps both? There are pros and cons to each method. Work out what’s best for you and stick to it. Be clear in your aims and research the best options.
2. Use marketplaces
The chances of someone stumbling upon your product on your website are slim, so why not get your brand out there and use online marketplaces to sell too? For example, get on Amazon, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, to name just a few. The marketplaces are good for finding new customers and raising brand awareness, while your own store can cater to repeat customers and offer lower prices and loyalty schemes.
3. Customer care
The customer’s always right, right!? Absolutely, so make sure they’re taken care of, as they’re the ones paying for your next dream holiday. Reply to e-mails, answer queries, be accessible through social media channels and live chat. Whatever it takes to keep the customers happy, do it.
4. Payment plans
Having a slick payment system is hugely important for your online experience. It needs to be safe, secure and easy to use for the user. You need an Internet merchant account and then a payment service provider. If you are struggling, do your research, as you don’t want to get this wrong. Also, seek some legal advice as there is quite a bit of regulation you need to comply with in the world of eCommerce.
5. Deliver the goods
You’ll encourage repeat purchases if you get your delivery strategy right. The postage price you charge, the delivery services you offer and the time it takes for the parcel to arrive and what it looks like is hugely crucial. If this bit is poor, the chances of repeat orders are slim. If you have a quick and professional delivery service, buyers will be coming back for more.
6. Keep working
Many eCommerce businesses focus on the first order but forget about the second. Keep marketing, keep pushing and keep working hard to drive repeat orders. Be willing to change your plans accordingly and adjust the strategy to drive more business. Have regular self-appraisals and always be willing to make changes.
