Rae is Emeritus Professor of Electronic Imaging at the University of Bradford, UK, where he has been a member of the professoriate since 1995. He was the University of Bradford’s Dean of the School of Informatics from 1999–2007 and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Systems Development) from 2004–2009.
He has been a Visiting Professor at Illinois Institute of Technology, George Washington University, USA and Northwestern Polytechnical University, China. He is also a member of ACM, IEEE, CGS, Eurographics, and a Fellow of the British Computer Society and the Institute of Physics.
Rae has been author and collaborator in a large number of funded European R & D projects involving industry and research laboratories. He has also acted as a reviewer and auditor of European projects and proposals since 1990.
The author and editor 45 books on computer graphics, visualisation, multimedia, design, and virtual reality, Rae has also published over 200 papers in these areas.
